They are the shortest games in the catalogue, ideal when you have three free minutes and want to play right away without installing anything. Three of the four games on this shelf work the same on a phone and on a computer: in Slice Rush you slice with a finger or the mouse, in PULSE and Ghost Run you move by dragging on the screen or with WASD. Vairaxis is the exception: it is a keyboard game, also for two people at one computer, and it will not start on a phone. Every game page lists the exact controls before you press Play. A good arcade game in a browser has three traits: it starts in a second, teaches its rules with the first round and lets you start the next one at once. We check for those in every title on this shelf. You see your record on the game page, and next to developers’ games also a daily, weekly and all-time leaderboard, with no account and nothing to hand over. PULSE: Echo Maze is a dark maze where the walls are visible only for a moment after a pulse; every flash helps you and tells the hunters where you are, and the daily challenge gives every player the same maze. Ghost Run is a top-down run with a time loop: every few seconds the game records your moves as a ghost that repeats them, so with every attempt more copies of you run around the level. Vairaxis is a space shooter against waves of enemies with a shield, laser, missiles and a drone, solo or two players on one keyboard. ### Play now: how to start on a phone and on a computer Click a game tile. The first round is the tutorial: you learn the rules in a few seconds, because arcade games have few of them (move, slice or shoot). On a phone Slice Rush is played in portrait, PULSE and Ghost Run in landscape; the game page says so. On a computer the arrows or WASD, the space bar and the mouse are all you need. ### Short rounds, instant restart, a record to beat An arcade game is good when losing does not hurt: a round lasts two to five minutes and a new one starts with a single tap. The score counts from the first second, so even thirty seconds on the tram give you a shot at a record. The record stays on your device, and in games with a leaderboard it also goes to the board under a nickname, with no account. You see who leads today and how far you are behind. ### Free, no download and no account Free means there are no in-game payments and no premium version. No download means the game is an ordinary web page: the browser fetches it and runs it in the same tab, on a phone and on a computer, with no store and no plug-ins. You do not need an account to play; it is only useful when you want to leave a heart or a comment under a game.
