### How rating works

Rating works as in chess. Each player has a separate number in every game, a new player starts at 800, and after each match points change depending on who you played. Beating a stronger opponent earns a lot, beating a beginner very little.

Only matches between two real accounts count, with no bots. Until the system is sure of your strength your result is marked provisional, and after a long break the uncertainty grows again.

Rating is not the same as a record. A record is your best score in a game and lives in the Records section, while rating shows how you do against other people. The top goes to those who play regularly and beat better and better opponents.

Each game has its own table, because a good checkers player is not always good at Makao. The table shows the rating, the number of games played and a podium of the best players. A tournament match changes the rating once, when it ends, not after every game, so one weak deal does not ruin your result. A walkover does not change the rating at all. Rating also decides the seeding: the strongest players meet only at the end of a tournament.
