### How referees work

A referee on Klyo Games keeps an online tournament in order. Any account can apply to referee chosen games: Makao, checkers, backgammon or dominoes. In the profile the referee adds languages, a country and a short description, and the referee board shows them to players, organisers, schools and clubs from all over the world. The order on the board depends on reviews and the number of tournaments run.

The organiser invites a referee to their tournament and the referee accepts. An accepted referee appears on the tournament page and on the participants' certificates, and during play looks after the spectator chat: they can hide any message that spoils the fun or tips off the players. The server counts every match result, so the referee never retypes scores.

When the tournament ends, the players and the organiser give the referee one to five stars and a short review. Only someone who really played in a tournament run by that referee can review, once per tournament, so ratings cannot be pumped up with empty accounts.

Schools, clubs and organisers post “Looking for a referee” notices with the game, the date and a description of the tournament. Referees of that game apply with one click, and the author picks the person with the best reviews; the choice invites them to the tournament at once. Taking part is free and works in the browser on a computer or a phone.
