About Reversi

An 8×8 board, contrasting discs, emerald felt and a slim wooden frame keep the next move easy to read. Play in your browser on a phone, tablet or computer, with no app to install and no time limit.

How to play Reversi

The board has 8×8 squares. Two black and two white discs start in the centre, and black moves first. Place a disc on an empty square so one or more opposing discs form an unbroken line between your new disc and another of your discs. Lines can be horizontal, vertical or diagonal.

Every move must capture. All opposing discs directly bracketed in any direction turn to your colour. You cannot jump over your own discs, move a placed disc or cause a chain reaction. When you have no legal move, you must pass. You cannot pass while a move is available. The game ends as soon as neither player can move, even with empty squares remaining. The player with more discs of their colour wins. Equal counts make a draw.

Play the computer or a second player

Choose from four computer levels and play either colour. Master searches more possibilities, but it is not presented as an unbeatable opponent. Two players can share one device, while friend matches use a separate Klyo room. Hints and undo are available for practice, not in an internet match. A short interactive introduction shows how your first capture works.

24 tactical puzzles and daily play

The academy contains 24 one-move puzzles about taking corners, capturing a target number of discs and choosing the best endgame move. Earn up to three stars in each exercise. The daily challenge selects three positions for each UTC date and offers a maximum of 300 points. A wrong answer or hint deducts 20 points from that puzzle, down to a minimum of 20. Replaying a completed daily set is practice only and does not submit another score. Leaderboard points come from the daily challenge; regular matches are decided by disc counts.

Preview your move and choose your table

Hold a square to preview the captured discs and release to play. Legal-move markers, sound effects and ambient music have separate settings. Continue your saved match from the main menu. Emerald and ivory tables are available immediately; 12 academy stars unlock Midnight Sapphire. The table is cosmetic and does not change the rules. Avoid giving away a corner for a few easy flips: the final disc count matters more than the largest immediate capture.

How to win at Reversi: corners and available moves

An occupied corner cannot be flipped by your opponent. Before playing next to an empty corner, check whether you will give them access to it. Do not judge a move only by how many discs it flips: consider how many legal replies your opponent will have. Use the capture preview while learning and count the expected final score in the endgame.

Do I need to install anything

No. Reversi runs in the same browser tab you are reading now. There is no store download, no account and no e-mail to give. The game is free and stays free.

Your score and progress are saved on your device, not only on our server, so you see your record when you come back.
