Free game assets: 3D models, textures and sounds

The best free game assets you can earn money with come from Kenney, Quaternius, Poly Haven and ambientCG: all CC0, no credit required. Get sounds from Kenney or from Freesound with the CC0 filter on. Below are ready packs for your genre, from solitaire to a 3D shooter.

Where to download free 3D models and game assets?

Nine sources that really deliver big game quality. Each shows its license in words and whether an AI assistant can download the files on its own.

  • Kenney

    ✓ CC0, no credit needed CC0 1.0

Over a hundred consistent packs by one author: cards, boards, cars, platformers, space, UI and sounds. One style throughout, so the game does not look patched together.

    Direct file download

    Open Kenney

  • Quaternius

    ✓ CC0, no credit needed CC0 1.0

Animated characters, monsters, animals, weapons, cities and whole low poly worlds in glTF. The best free source of living 3D characters.

Download by hand in a browser

    Open Quaternius

  • Poly Haven

    ✓ CC0, no credit needed CC0 1.0

Photorealistic models, textures and skies (HDRI) captured from real photos. A handful of them makes a scene look like a big studio game.

An AI assistant downloads it alone (API)

    Open Poly Haven

  • ambientCG

    ✓ CC0, no credit needed CC0 1.0

Over two thousand PBR materials: stone, wood, metal, fabric, ground. Complements Poly Haven.

    Open ambientCG

  • Freesound

⚠ License per file varies, filter CC0

The largest library of real recordings: card shuffles, footsteps, doors, rain. Every sound has its own license, so the CC0 filter is a must.

Download by hand in a browser

    Open Freesound

  • OpenGameArt

⚠ License per file varies, filter CC0

A game artists' community since 2009: loopable music, 2D sprites, effects. Quality varies, and the license must be checked for every file.

    Direct file download

    Open OpenGameArt

  • game-icons.net

✎ Credit the author CC BY 3.0

Over four thousand game icons in one style: swords, potions, cards, skills. Vector, so they stay sharp on every screen.

    Direct file download

    Open game-icons.net

  • Google Fonts

✎ Credit the author SIL OFL 1.1

Typefaces with full Latin coverage for titles and numbers. One face for titles and one for text is enough.

    Direct file download

    Open Google Fonts

  • Adobe Mixamo

⚠ Service terms royalty-free in games (Adobe terms)

Thousands of motions for 3D characters: run, jump, punch, dance. Pairs well with Quaternius characters.

Download by hand in a browser

    Open Adobe Mixamo

We checked every address and license at the source on 2026-10-11. Read the license when you download anyway, authors can change it.

Which assets should I pick for my game?

Pick your genre. You get packs that match each other and a list of things that tell a player the game is polished.

Cards, solitaire and card games

What to download

How a player recognises a good game

  • a card flies to its target on an arc, it never pops in or out
  • a sound on every card move, a different one on an illegal move
  • a hint after a few idle seconds
  • undo in one gesture
  • a win animation worth recording

Board and puzzle games

What to download

How a player recognises a good game

  • a board material (wood, stone, cloth), not a flat colour
  • pieces cast shadows and land softly
  • legal moves are visible without reading rules
  • a computer opponent with several levels
  • the match is saved and resumes after closing the tab

2D arcade and platformers

What to download

How a player recognises a good game

  • jumps are forgiving: a moment to jump after leaving a ledge
  • a hit has a flash, a screen shake and a sound
  • the camera leads the player's movement
  • death to retry in under a second
  • the score to beat is visible while playing

3D games: action, adventure, shooters

What to download

How a player recognises a good game

  • light from the sky (HDRI) and shadows instead of flat lighting
  • the character runs, jumps and lands, it does not slide like a block
  • footstep sounds depend on the surface
  • phone controls: a virtual stick and buttons
  • the game fits a phone: GLB models, 1k or 2k textures

Racing and vehicles

What to download

How a player recognises a good game

  • speed is felt: blur, the camera pulls back, the engine roars
  • a ghost of the best run on the track
  • restart the race in one gesture
  • drifts and crashes have sound and sparks
  • tilt or buttons on the phone, player's choice

Space and top-down shooters

What to download

How a player recognises a good game

  • enemy waves with rising pace and a breather
  • upgrades visible on the ship
  • explosions with debris and sound
  • a boss every few waves

Can I earn money from a game with free models?

CC0 first (anything goes, including earning money; credit is welcome). CC BY only with the author credited. Never NC (non-commercial), ND (no changes) or “personal use”: games on klyo earn from ads.

How do I credit third-party assets in my game?

One line per asset in LICENCJE.txt inside the package. The klyo sieve reads it on upload: a credited asset passes without questions, an uncredited author found in model or sound metadata is a gate warning.

Example lines:

Playing Cards Pack, autor: Kenney, https://kenney.nl/assets/playing-cards-pack, CC0 1.0
Universal Base Characters, autor: Quaternius, https://quaternius.com/packs/universalbasecharacters.html, CC0 1.0
weathered_planks, autor: Poly Haven, https://polyhaven.com/a/weathered_planks, CC0 1.0

How do I keep a 3D game fast on a phone?

A beautiful game that takes half a minute to load loses players before they see it. Five rules:

  • .glb models (one file with textures), not .fbx or .blend
  • 1k or 2k textures as JPG or WebP; 4k only where the camera gets close
  • one atlas instead of hundreds of small images
  • short OGG or MP3 sounds, seamless music loops
  • first download on a phone up to 20 MB: stream the rest during play

What should I never put in my game?

  • Assets marked NC, “non-commercial” or “personal use only”: a game on klyo earns from ads.
  • Models from Sketchfab and similar sites without checking each model's license: many are CC BY-NC.
  • Characters, logos and music from other brands (Mario, Pokémon, films, radio songs), even if some site offers them “for free”.
  • Stock photos as game art: the license usually does not cover games.

Can an AI assistant download game assets on its own?

Yes, if it works with klyo over MCP. The first tool it calls hands it the same list as this page, with download addresses and the credit format. Before it writes the gameplay, it proposes a version with real models and sounds. It downloads sources with an API or a direct file itself; for the rest it gives you the address and tells you where to put the files.
