How to check that a Klyo tournament certificate is genuine
Scan the QR code in the bottom right corner of the certificate with a phone. The tournament page shows “Genuine certificate” with the name, place, organiser and issue date. If the details differ or the page says “No such certificate”, the print did not come from Klyo.
Before you start
- A Klyo tournament certificate, on paper or as a PDF file, with a KLYO code under the QR code.
- A phone with a camera or a computer. No Klyo account is needed: anyone can check, including a school, a parent or an employer.
Step by step
Find the certificate code
The code is in the bottom right corner, under the QR code: the letters KLYO and ten characters, for example KLYO K7Q2M 9XW4P. Every certificate has its own code, drawn by the Klyo server when it is issued. The code cannot be guessed.
Scan the QR code
Open the phone camera and point it at the QR code. The phone offers the tournament page on games.klyo.pl. The page opens in your browser language, even when the certificate is in another language.
Compare the details
At the top of the tournament page there is a green mark and the words “Genuine certificate”. Below are the name on the certificate, the player nickname, the place and the number of players, the organiser, the referee, and who issued the certificate and when. The server counts the place from the tournament matches, not the organiser.
When something does not match
If the name or the place on paper differs from the page, someone has altered the certificate. If the page says “No such certificate”, the code is not in the Klyo database and the certificate is fake.
Check the date and the issuer
The page shows who issued the certificate and when: the organiser, the referee or a club coach. If the organiser corrected the name, you see the new date. A certificate issued by the player shows their nickname as the issuer, and the server still counts the place, so no one can give themselves a better result.
If something goes wrong
The phone does not see the QR code
Improve the light and hold the phone about a hand away from the certificate. You can also open the tournament page and add ?d= and the code from the certificate to the address.
The page says there is no such certificate
Check that the code is copied exactly. The letters O, I and L are read as the digits 0 and 1. If the code is right and there is no certificate, the print did not come from Klyo.
The certificate is in another language than the page
That is normal. The certificate is printed in the language chosen when it was issued, and the check page opens in your browser language. The details are the same in every language: Polish, English, German and Ukrainian.
I only have a photo of the certificate
That is enough. Scan the QR code from the photo on a screen, or copy the code from under the QR code into the tournament page address after ?d=. The result is the same as from paper.
