Game rules

Dominoes rules

Dominoes is played with tiles that have two halves of pips. You play a tile so that its pips match an open end of the line, and the first player to run out of tiles wins the hand and scores the pips left in the other hands. Below are the rules of the three games you can play on klyo: draw dominoes, block dominoes and Mexican Train.

How many tiles are there and how many does each player get?

A standard double six set has 28 tiles, from the double blank to the double six. In draw dominoes two players take 7 tiles each, and three or four players take 5. In block dominoes everyone takes 7. The tiles nobody took stay face down as the boneyard.

Who goes first and how do you play a tile?

The first hand of a match is opened by the player with the highest double, who plays that double. If nobody holds a double, the heaviest tile opens. Players then take turns clockwise, one tile at a time. A tile has to touch an open end with the half that has the same number of pips. Doubles are placed crosswise. Later hands are opened by the winner of the previous one.

What happens when no tile fits?

In draw dominoes you draw from the boneyard one tile at a time until you get one that fits, and you play it at once. When the boneyard is empty, you pass. In block dominoes nobody draws: without a matching tile you simply pass.

How do you score dominoes?

The first player to play out every tile wins the hand and scores the total pips in the other players' hands. When nobody can move, the player with the lowest pip count wins the hand and scores the others' pips. If the lowest count is tied, nobody scores. A match goes to an agreed score, on klyo 50, 100 or 150.

How do you play dominoes in pairs?

Four players can play as two pairs. Partners sit opposite each other and score together. When one of them plays out, the pair scores the pips in both opponents' hands, and a blocked hand compares the totals of the whole pairs.

How does Mexican Train work?

Mexican Train is a dominoes game for two to eight players with a double twelve set. The engine double sits in the middle of the table: 12 and 12 in the first round, one lower in every round after that. Everyone builds a personal train from the engine, and the shared Mexican Train runs alongside.

  • On your first turn of a round you may play several tiles onto your own train.
  • After that you play one tile: on your train, on the Mexican Train or on another player's open train.
  • When nothing fits, draw one tile. If it still does not fit, you pass and your train opens to everyone until you play on it again.
  • A double must be satisfied: the next tile in play has to go on it.
  • After each round the pips in your hand go to your score, and the double blank counts 50. The lowest total after the last round wins.

How do you play dominoes on klyo?

Dominoes on klyo is a 3D table where the tiles are shuffled at the start of every hand. Play the computer at three levels, several players on one phone, or online. You play a tile with a tap or a drag, and when it fits in more than one place the game highlights the choice. There is also a daily deal: one hand, the same for everyone.
